AKSHAY IN NEWS
In Padman trailer, Akshay Kumar plays the superhero that India truly needs - a man who invents a low-cost sanitary pad maker so that he can make his wife’s life easier.
Can films turn the tide on taboos? Akshay Kumar sure believes so and after delivering Toilet Ek Prem Katha, he is now back with PadMan. As the Padman trailer was revealed this morning, one thing is clear -- it is going to normalise the discussion around menstrual hygiene. The film, which also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in lead roles, promises to be the story of a social awakening, told through the lens of humour.
The trailer begins with a narration from Amitabh Bachchan who calls PadMan India’s answer to the superheroes of the US. Akshay has the idea to make sanitary napkins for women and is even shown trying some on in a pink underwear himself. He pitches the idea to his sisters and his wife (Radhika Apte), who all feel ashamed to even discuss the sanitary health with their brother and husband respectively.
Embarrassed by his noble pursuits, his wife leaves him and the people of his village shun him. That is until hope walks back into his life in the form of a social worker (Sonam Kapoor) who helps him realise his dreams.
Soon, the village embarrassment’s venture takes off, women buy his pads and IITians study him and his work.
Naseeruddin Shah recently kicked up a storm by calling yesteryear superstar Rajesh Khanna a poor actor. The late star’s wife Dimple and daughter Twinkle instantly responded with scathing remarks of their own and it seemed like storm clouds were brewing in the peaceful skies of Bollywood. But it seems like Naseeruddin Shah himself has apologized and the matter has been put to rest. Rajesh Khanna’s son-in-law Akshay himself broke the news to the media and requested them to let the issue go. Here’s what he said, "I am in this industry for last 25 years, just tell me if I have ever spoken anything about other actor. Some wise person has said that mind your own business and I feel I should do my own work… who am I to comment on anyone.” He further added, “Everybody has their own way of talking and everyone can speak their voice out. Now it’s a closed matter. Nasser Saab has gracefully apologized and I would appreciate if we all forget about this.”
Akshay Kumar often experiments with his characters in movies but not so much with his appearance. But it seems to actor is keen to try out new things in his new films. First we saw him looking radically different as a villain in the Robot sequel and now we have him sporting a man bun in Dishoom! Check out this image where the star can be seen intensely riding a jet ski while a funky man bun sits atop his head. We are still divided over how Akki looks with this new hairdo so please help us out by sounding off your views in the comments section below. Anyway, here’s what Akki himself had to say about his cameo in the film, “A cameo I had a ball shooting for. Wishing all the luck to my friends Sajid, John Abraham, Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez. Pack a punch with Dishoom.”
If you thought Akshay Kumar’s upcoming flick Rustom is yet another patriotic film, think again. The latest poster of the movie features Akshay with his head lowered and in full Navy regalia. In the background you can see Ileana in the arms of what seems to be another man while many newspaper cuttings promise a foreboding premise. The most intriguing part of the poster however is the tagline - ‘3 shots that shocked the nation’. People believe that the film is based on the infamous Nanavati murder case of the 50s in which a Naval officer had murdered his wife’s lover and then surrendered. The case had earned him the tagline of the ‘honorable killer’. Akki himself shared the poster of the film and tweeted, “3 shots that shocked the nation and changed his life! Find out what happened with #Rustom this August 12, 2016.” Tags: Akshay Kumar, Ileane D'Cruz
