Veteran actor Anupam Kher has worked in countless films over the years. Not only is he a brilliant performer but he has never backed away from championing a cause he truly believes in. Anupam kher has now been appointed as the official ambassador of UN’s He For She campaign. In an official ceremony, Kher was pinned as the He For She ambassador and the actor himself tweeted about it and shared the news. The He For She campaign works towards gender equality through male role models. Bollywood starFarhan Akhtar too has done a lot of work for the initiative in the past. Talking about the honour, Anupam Kher said, “I come from a family that was very poor, but I was taught by my grandparents that men and women are equal. Domestic violence comes from a deep sentiment of superiority by men. Change for gender equality has to start at home, in the family.” “I pledge to respond to each of my followers who sign up to #HeForShe” He For She is a worldwide movement that works towards gender equality. It primarily appoints male ambassadors to champion the cause of gender equality.
Anupam Kher and Irrfan Khan are both accomplished actors and men of firm opinions as was evident from their verbal duel at a suburban five star hotel last night where the duo were attending a discussion at the curtain raiser for an upcoming awards function. Kher and Irrfan have been nominated for their performances in Special Chabbis and The Lunchbox respectively. They were asked to comment on the nominations and Kher replied, “I would only like to talk about myself, so its only going to be about Special Chabbis.” Irrfan probably felt that Anupam refrained from commenting so that he would not have to praise the other actors. The Paan Singh Tomar actor replied, “Cinema is not about applauding only one's own self. I disagree with Anupam's viewpoint. We need to praise others too.” To which Anupam Kher retaliated with, “This is totally out of context. I teach students when to applaud and who to applaud. I have a high regard for those who are nominated in any award function.” Later Anupam assured the press that he was simply making a light-hearted comment and did not intend to offend anyone. He clarified that he worked out things with Irrfan later and even gave him a hug.
