IRRFAN IN NEWS
Irrfan who is being dragged into a controversy with Vashu Bhagnani’s ‘Welcome To Karachi’ clears the air saying that he amicably parted ways with the producer owing to creative differences. Talking about the same, a source close to Irrfan added, “The producers were informed well in advance about Irrfan not being part of the film. Irrfan was taken aback with the way the whole thing has been blown out of proportion. Talking about it, the actor added, “Why would I do something of this sort to a producer. I had been involved in Welcome to Karachi right from the scripting stage since a year and a half when there were no producers. When Vashuji came on board as the producer, he wanted to start immediately, but I felt we were underprepared. I suggested we delay the shoot to plan things as it's a character-based film and needs good actors, who can get the Karachi accent right. I didn't think we were ready with the climax either. But they were impatient to go ahead with the shoot.” To which the producer reportedly said, “I am okay if you do or don't do the film.” ”This attitude was the exact thing which prompted me to walk away from the project. Later, I even agreed to do a cameo in the film. I even returned the money I had received from him for the shoot” Added the actor. This was not it, Irrfan was informed about the mahurat shot at the very last minute and the producers pleaded him to come for the same. Being the professional that Irrfan is, the actor cancelled his prior commitments and made sure that he attended the Mahurat shot.
Irrfan Khan is undoubtedly one of the finest actors of our country. Few Bollywood actors have received the kind of critical international acclaim like Irrfan has and in addition to his bunch of Indian awards, Irrfan has also bagged the covetous best actor award at the Asian Film Awards for his performance in The Lunchbox. He beat the likes of Song Kang-ho, Lee Kang Sheng, Fukuyama Masaharu and Tony Leung Chiu-Wai to win the award. The Asian Film Awards are regarded as the Oscars of the east. Talking about the award, Irrfan said, “It's a great honour to be nominated alongside an actor like Tony Leung Chiu-Wai ('The Grandmaster') and winning.” ‘The Lunchbox’ director Ritesh Batra bagged the best screenwriter award while the film itself lost to ‘The Grandmaster.’ Inaugrated in 2007, the Asian Film Awards honours the best achievements in film making in Asia.
Ever since The Lunchbox, Irrfan Khan has been on the lookout for a challenging role and Tigmanshu Dhulia may have just fulfilled his wish. Dhulia and Irrfan who have previously collaborated on a number of films like Paan Singh Tomar, Charas, Haasil and Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns, are now working together on a film titled 'The Killling Of A Porn Filmmaker'. Irrfan will play the role of a sleazy porn film maker who creates the lowest grade of pornography in the market. Tigmanshu Dhulia explains, “We are talking about a guy who plants secret cameras in toilets, shoots honeymooning couples with hidden cameras...Irrfan plays the supreme of sleaze.” He further adds that Irrfan's character does find redemption later, though the audience will have to wait to watch the film to find out how. It will be shot in English and Hindi and will feature a major international star with Irrfan and will also touch on the issue of racism. Tigmanshu Dhulia's last venture Bullett Raja starring Saif Ali Khan did not do so well and it will be interesting to see if he manages to recreate the Paan Singh Tomar magic with Irrfan.
