Om Puri responds to wife's domestic violence allegations

28-08-2013

Veteran actor Om Puri, whose wife Nandita has filed a domestic violence case against him responds to the tremendous media attention he’s been getting. And he’s here to set the record straight. According to a source, he said, “I’ve been shooting the entire day. If Nandita says I am absconding then I am afraid she is speaking of a situation I am not aware of. I have nothing to hide. I don’t need to run away.” Om Puri responds to wife's domestic violence allegations The actor claims that he has never assaulted his wife and instead, is the victim. “My wife wants to destroy me. I can’t let her. I’ve responsibilities towards myself, my son and others who are dependent on me,” he said. Nandita, he alleges, is misusing the laws that are meant to protect women. But the only thing he is concerned about is the welfare of his son Ishaan and those closest to him. Om also wants to leave the controversy behind as he is scheduled to leave for a shoot in Europe a few days later. He is hoping that the complaint does not derail his schedule. “If this ugly allegation prevents me from travelling for my work then I promise you, there will be hell to pay,” he warns.

Actor Om Puri, who is known for some of the most memorable roles in Bollywood in films like Ardh Satya, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, East Is East, Hera Pheri and The Reluctant Fundamentalist, was accused by his wife Nandita of domestic violence. The actor has been absconding since her complaint to the police, who have booked him under Section 324 (causing hurt by dangerous means), 504 and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Om Puri booked for domestic violence The actor had allegedly attacked his wife with a stick after an argument over the maintenance for the flat. This is not the first time Om has been in the news for his spats with Nandita. The cracks first began to appear after Nandita wrote his biography Unlikely Hero: The Story Of Om Puri in 2009, where she mentioned unsavoury instances of his affair with the domestic help. Nandita, however, maintained that they had begun drifting apart in 2008 when Om was reconciling with his first wife Seema. The couple, despite washing their dirty linen in public, have had an on-again, off-again equation ever since. They separated two years ago, to prepare their son Ishaan for the inevitable divorce. But this particular incident has spiraled their domestic arrangement out of hand.
