SONAM IN NEWS
In Padman trailer, Akshay Kumar plays the superhero that India truly needs - a man who invents a low-cost sanitary pad maker so that he can make his wife’s life easier.
Can films turn the tide on taboos? Akshay Kumar sure believes so and after delivering Toilet Ek Prem Katha, he is now back with PadMan. As the Padman trailer was revealed this morning, one thing is clear -- it is going to normalise the discussion around menstrual hygiene. The film, which also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in lead roles, promises to be the story of a social awakening, told through the lens of humour.
The trailer begins with a narration from Amitabh Bachchan who calls PadMan India’s answer to the superheroes of the US. Akshay has the idea to make sanitary napkins for women and is even shown trying some on in a pink underwear himself. He pitches the idea to his sisters and his wife (Radhika Apte), who all feel ashamed to even discuss the sanitary health with their brother and husband respectively.
Embarrassed by his noble pursuits, his wife leaves him and the people of his village shun him. That is until hope walks back into his life in the form of a social worker (Sonam Kapoor) who helps him realise his dreams.
Soon, the village embarrassment’s venture takes off, women buy his pads and IITians study him and his work.
Now here’s something you don’t see everyday in Bollywood. While most the country is busy slamming AIB comedian Tanmay Bhatt for mocking Sachin Tedulkar and Lata Mangeshkar, one of his victims has turned up in his support. Surprisingly, none other than Sonam Kapoor has spoken out in support of Tanmay Bhatt and claims that she knows Tanmay would never willfully try to offend anyone. She further added that icons like Sachin and Lata don’t really need other people to speak out on their behalf and they are too big to even get affected by such jokes. This is rather interesting considering the fact that Tanmay and his AIB gang had severely blasted Sonam and her family during their AIB roast. So don’t you think Sonam is setting up a rather good precedent here by taking the high ground? Do share your views with us about the entire issue in the comments section below.

Bollywood’s obsession with the term ‘happy’ continues, after Happy New Year and Happy Ending we now have a movie coming up called Happy News. John Abraham is all set to play the lead role in the movie and he will be paired with none other than our favourite fashionista - Sonam Kapoor. These two will definitely make an unusual pair but who wants to see the same old faces together all the time? The film will be directed by Ashwini Dheer who had last helmed Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar. We hear that it will be a romantic drama and is slated to hit the shooting floors by early next year. John is currently recuperating from a knee injury after which he will wrap up the shooting of Force 2 with Sonakshi Sinha. Sonam on the other hand seems to be experimenting with her co-star choices. She will next be seen in Sooraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo with Salman Khan. Tags: Sonam Kapoor, John Abraham, Force 2, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo
