SRIDEVI IN NEWS
Indian Media never backs out form thoroughly taking advantage of any news story that they can get their hands on. Inevitably, the same happened with the death of legendary actress Sridevi.
Journalists and news agencies first swarmed the home of Sridevi’s brother Anil kapoor at Juhu, Mumbai as soon as the news broke out. And the exploitation seemingly never stopped since then.
We have been bombarded with this “news” from every social media platform and every TV news channel with tributes, personal testimonials and conspiracy theories. While the has been no official statement about her demise, the initial rumors reveal that Sridevi succumbed to a heart attack while in a bathtub.
Obviously, numerous Indian news channels just had to round up their “experts” in this matter. They started theorizing about various treatments like plastic surgeries the actress had and whether she was on fat-burners or steroids!
Crass statements by reputed news channels further showed us the true face of Indian media. The headline says “Maut ka bathtub”. Showcasing a clip of the actress dancing on a wedding few days before her death titled - ‘Sridevi ka Aakhri Dance’ the anchor comments on this - ‘sharab ke nashe main chali gayi duniya se Chandni’.
Some News commented on this story in their own unique way, the host asked “If Sridevi was a teetotaler, then why did she drink that day? Did she drink because of family problems? Was she stressed about the end of her career? Was she depressed?” The ominous music playing in the background and visuals like a crime further emphasized on their point.
There are tens of other such examples which tell us that the quality of journalism in the country is drastically hampered in today’s day and age. We as audience feel strongly about this issue. Reporting a death of any person shouldn’t be considered as an opportunity to raise TRP through controversies!
Sridevi’s daughter Jhanvi Kapoor may have yet to make her Bollywood debut, but the star-kid already knows how to party like a diva. She loves sharing pictures of herself online and we have often seen her posing with friends at parties. She recently uploaded a particularly interesting photo of herself partying with a friend. Sridevi’s little girl appears to be in high spirits in the picture as she pouts at the camera and holds her long tresses like a regular little diva. Being born into a star family like she has, it is no wonder that Jhanvi has learnt all the starry nakhras before actually becoming a star. Hopefully, this budding actress will prove to be as good a performer as her mom when she makes her debut with Karan Johar soon. Apparently, the film-maker has already taken her under his wing and is planning a film to launch her in Bollywood. Like most of Bollywood, Sridevi too is busy vacationing with her family. The veteran actress recently tweeted some eye-popping pictures of her vacation, one of which features her in a black, skimpy swimsuit. Sridevi looks stunning for her age in the pic which only adds fuel to the rumour that she had gone under the knife last year to enhance her assets. Sridevi had previously been photographed in a body-hugging outfit where she appeared to be bustier than usual. The vacation photograph also includes Sridevi's two daughters Jhanvi and Khushi in bikini tops and shorts and hubby Boney Kapoor who is thankfully, fully clothed. Related News: Fire breaks out at Sridevi's bungalow
At approximately 6.15 pm on the 21st of December, a fire broke out at Sridevi's bungalow in Lokhandwala, Andheri (West). The English Vinglish actress was present in the house along with her daughters and mother-in-law. As they were getting ready to leave for an event, Sridevi's daughter Jhanvi noticed her air conditioner was on fire and alerted the family. Nobody was hurt but the actress' bedroom was ruined and the entire ground floor of the bungalow is in a dilapidated state.
Sridevi is a brilliant painter and a lot of her paintings were destroyed in the fire. Amongst the damages was a painting of Michael Jackson which the actress had gifted her daughter on the pop-star's death anniversary. Sridevi's mother-in-law was then shifted to Sanjay Kapoor's place while Srivdevi, husband Boney Kapoor and their daughters moved into neighbour Rajkumar Santoshi's house. They are currently in search of a new house.
It could be a clash of the divas or a meeting of the East and West. But if the reports are confirmed and if both actresses give their nods, it seems that audiences everywhere might get to see Meryl Streep and Sridevi together for Hollywood venture Cowboys and Indians. The film will be directed by Amy Redford, daughter of Hollywood legend Robert Redford. If this is true, Amy will be the second female director to direct her after Gauri Shinde in English Vinglish. It’s an exciting development at a time when Bollywood actresses like Tabu and Mallika Sherawat managed to make international forays (whether remarkable or not) abroad. And there are also the likes of Deepika Padukone, Kangna Ranaut and Chitrangda Singh who had also been considered for the part of a tech expert in Fast and Furious 7.
Will Sridevi be joining the league? We hope so too! Sri received acclaim here and on foreign shores for her comeback in English Vinglish, where she played a traditional Indian homemaker. Her manager Punkej Kharbanda said to a source: "Yes, we are happy to have received a communication about a project with Ms. Meryl Streep." He declined to comment further on the matter. If Sri does sign on the dotted lines, it will mark her debut for an international film. Sri had almost missed out on the opportunity in the 90s when Steven Spielberg had wanted to offer her a role in Jurassic Park. Let’s hope it’s different this time. If the project does see the light of day, it would be a casting coup in every sense of the word.
