VIDYA IN NEWS
Vidya Balan definitely ranks amongst the best actresses in Bollywood and it seems this pretty lady is all set to take up yet another challenge. After playing the role of Silk Smitha in The Dirty Picture, Vidya will now play the role of Geeta Bali in an upcoming biopic. The film is actually a Marathi biopic on the life of Bhagwan Dada and it will take a special look at the making of his very popular film Albela starring Geeta Bali. So apparently, Vidya will just have a cameo in the movie but the actress is very excited about it. She said, “It’s an honour to be playing the effervescent Geeta Bali even if it is just a special appearance, and to be recreating ‘Albela’ for a Marathi biopic on Bhagwan Dada.” Director Shekhar Sartandel was on the lookout for a very Indian face to portray Geeta and Vidya seems to be a perfect fit. We hear that she won’t have to speak Marathi in the movie and will be seen in Geeta Bali’s Albela avatar. What do you think about Vidya playing Geeta Bali’s role?
Instead of the usual glamour shot of an actor, the cover of this month’s Filmfare shows off a rather quirky side to a very popular actress. Vidya Balan is Filmfare’s cover girl for June and for some reason she is seen posing as Charlie Chaplin’s iconic tramp character. The Dirty Picture actress is almost unrecognizable underneath that false mustache. The cover story has been titled, “Guess Who! The sad, glad, mad side to our cover star.” Vidya has always loved experimenting with her looks and nobody can deny her versatility when it comes to portraying different roles. She does seem to have slowed down in her career recently but will soon be seen romancing Emraan Hashmi in Mohit Suri’s Hamari Adhuri Kahani.
Vidya Balan may not have offered us much in the past year but she seems determined to make an impact with her Dabboo Ratnani calendar shot. While the rest of the stars chose modest and wacky poses, Vidya slipped back into her dirty picture avatar and apparently posed completely nude for the camera. Of course she is holding a newspaper which strategically covers her vitals but anyone with a decent imagination can easily fill in the blanks! Last year it was Parineeti who chose to go naked for Dabboo. Her prop of choice was a handcart though she played it safe this time by posing in a bathtub with at least a white shirt on. Vidya is extremely proud of her nude shot and calls it daring and unpredictable and she is sure it will make news. So here’s one more reason for all you guys to get your hands on Dabboo Ratnani’s Bollywood calendar as soon as possible!
Here’s a really interesting trend prevalent in Bollywood. Most of our top heroines seem to end up marrying divorced men. And not just any divorced men but rather rich and successful professionals and businessmen. So what prompts these beautiful actresses who could marry any hot, young actor to settle for these divorcees? Is it the allure of the money? Or are they attracted to a man more experienced in the rigours of married life? Whatever the case may be, most of them undeniably end up securing their future by marrying these men. Karisma Kapoor After her failed romance with Abhishek Bachchan, Karisma Kapoor settled down Sunjay Kapur. Interestingly, Sunjay was previously married to designer Nandita Mahtani who he knew since his college days. Eventually, even his second marriage with Karisma did not work out and the two parted ways after eleven years. They have two kids together. Kareena Kapoor Bebo followed in a her sister’s footsteps and ended up marrying the new Nawab of Pataudi. Saif was previously married to the much older Amrita Singh and they divorced after thirteen years of marriage. They had two kids and its said that Kareena gets along quite well with them. Shilpa Shetty Shilpa Shetty married entrepreneur Raj Kundra in 2009. Raj was already married to Kavita Kundra and the story goes that his growing closeness to Shilpa is what created a rift with Kavita. He eventually divorced her and married Shilpa and they even have a 2 year old son together. Shilpa has become an integral part of Raj’s business endeavors, especially their IPL team Rajasthan Royals. Kalki Koechlin Kalki is another actress who married a divorced man. Except in her case, it was someone from the film industry. And not just anyone but rather the director of her debut film DevD - Anurag Kashyap. Kashyap was previously married to editor Aarti Bajaj. Apparently the filmmaker went into depression when his first film Paanch couldn’t find a release and this let to the eventual fallout between the two. They have a daughter together. Sridevi After many failed romances, this southern beauty finally married Anil Kapoor’s older brother and producer Boney Kapoor. Boney was previously married to Mona Kapoor and even has two children from that marriage one of whom is Arjun Kapoor. Sridevi and Boney Kapoor are still happily married and they have two daughters too. Rani Mukerji Rani Mukerji finally married Aditya Chopra this year. But not many people know that even he was married once before. He was married to Payal Khanna for eight years before they divorced in 2009. Vidya Balan The lovely Vidya Balan too ended up marrying a big producer. She married Siddharth Roy Kapur who is the CEO of UTV pictures. Interestingly, Siddharth is a two time divorcee and Vidya is his third wife. It is rumoured that both of his previous marriages failed due his tendency to fall into extra-marital affairs.
Bilkis aka Bobby (Vidya Balan) is a young woman from Hyderabad with aspirations of becoming the best detective ever... in Mughalpura. Her first big case comes when she is approached by Khan (Kiran Kumar) to find a girl with a birthmark on her palm, when she cracks that, he asks her to find another girl, this time one who has a four inch gash on her right arm. She somehows manages to blunder way into finding this girl as well.. Khan’s next case for her is to find a young man with no toe. In the meantime, she refuses a case offered to her by the local gunda Lala (Arjan Bajwa), he plants seeds of doubt in her head about Khan's cases. What happens next is for you to find out. Directed by Samar Shaikh, Bobby Jasoos is a well narrated story that keeps you engaged through out. The one thing that does stick out like a sore thumb is the pairing of the lead pair, Ali Fazal looks far too young for Vidya Balan. Also the climax is a bit abrupt. Although Vidya Balan looks older than the character she plays she definitely surpasses herself as the feisty, innocent Bobby. Ali Fazal is accomplished. Arjan Bajwa, Tanve Azmi, Supriya Pathak, Rajendra Gupta and the rest of the cast are proficient. The 3 star Bobby Jasoos is worth a trip to the cinema hall.
