It’s time for Bollywood’s biggest box office clash of 2015 as Ranveer and Deepika’s Bajirao Mastani takes on Shah Rukh and Kajol’s Dilwale. So let’s a take a look at what Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Bajirao Mastani has to offer us. Bajirao Mastani tells the epic tale of Peshwa Bajirao and it kicks off with our hero Ranveer Singh wearing the turban of the Peshwa. Almost instantly he has to respond to a call for help by a messenger from far off Bundelkhand. Its only after the battle is won that Ranveer realizes that the messenger is none other than Mastani Deepika Padukone and he instantly and completely falls in love. He brings her back to Pune much to the chargrin of his wife Kashibai played by Priyanka. What follows is their epic romance and all the pitfalls they have to face in the coming times. Sanjay Leela Bhansali as usual overindulges himself with the movie but in all the right ways. Everything from the sets to the costumes is crafted with loving perfection and detail. The film drags on at times and a lot of the elements of the scripts may not appeal to mainstream audiences, especially the focus on lenghty dialogues. But it all contributes towards delivering a truly epic experience. Ranveer Singh is at his absolute best as Bajirao even though his character does appear to be a little frivolous at times to be a Maratha warrior but that’s Bollywood for you. Deepika manages to look utterly gorgeous no matter what she does but Priyanka is the one who steals the show with her nuanced acting. Overall, Bajirao Mastani provides a blockbuster experience that should be experienced in the big screen. We shall go with 3 stars for this much awaited film.
