Shah Rukh Khan’s much awaited action thriller Fan is finally out and after months and months of anticipation and excitement, here’s what its all about! Fan essentially tells the tale of every crazy Shah Rukh fan in the world. Protagonist Gaurav (SRK himself of course) is a typical small town, star studded boy who dreams of being Aryan (a star played again by SRK). Not only does he look like his favourite star but Gaurav also manages to perfectly emulate his every mannerism. What’s more, this crazy Fan has literally built a shrine to his favourite star in his bedroom. And then after months of waiting comes the fated moment when he comes face to face with his idol... and things go wrong. Fan takes a dark downward spiral from there as we slowly see this simple young man turn into a vengeful force. Director Maneesh Sharma and Habib Faisal may not have crafted the most intriguing thrillers around but it is definitely a special script. Gaurav’s love for his star builds up in an organic and eventually creepy way, foreshadowing horrors to come. You will remain glued to your seats as the action and excitement ramps up in the second half. Unexpectedly, the action scenes in the film are brilliant as is the amazing CGI that transforms SRK into Aryan. On the story front, certainly comparisons can be made with Robert De Niro’s The Fan or The King Of Comedy but this is essentially a unique experience. And now coming to the one guiding force behind it all - Shah Rukh Khan himself. After years of banal films like Chennai Express, Happy New Year and Dilwale, King Khan has decided to remind us why he is the King of acting. SRK’s performance as Gaurav is so radically transformative that it will take your breath away. You will constantly feel that you are indeed watching a newcomer who just vaguely resembles Shah Rukh. Some might argue that Gaurav’s overplays his part in some places but we feel it simply adds to the drama. If nothing else, watch it for this career-defining performance from Shah Rukh, you will not be disappointed. Director Maneesh Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan have indeed managed to cook up something very special. Not only is Fan a treat for SRK fans but even the common viewer will find something to love. Absurd as the plot may be, it is highly relatable and every person who has ever been snubbed by his idol will find a special empathy for Gaurav. Come for Shah Rukh, stay for Shah Rukh and remind yourself why he is the Badshah Of Bollywood. We shall go with four half stars for Fan.
