Bollywood’s Starry Wars

09-05-2012

In an increasingly dog-eat-dog world, Bollywood’s leading ladies are trying their best to keep their turf clean of any competition. What once used to be diplomatic defense has now given way to aggressively making digs at contemporaries.

Take Bipasha Basu for instance. Her “I’m not here to be an icon or wax statue” jab can be assumed as a take on Sonam Kapoor’s style icon status and even Kareena Kapoor’s wax statue installed earlier last year. Deepika Padukone’s using her age to her advantage while stating that she doesn’t belong to the league of those who have been here for close to a decade. Quoting her, “Kareena has definitely been around for 10 years, Katrina Kaif has been around for 6-8 years and Priyanka Chopra’s given the profession 8-10 years. I definitely don’t consider myself in the same league as them”. With no mention to the career path, that’s clearly Ms Padukone making a dig at her relative freshness in the industry. In the meanwhile, Anushka Sharma and Sonakshi Sinha seem to be clawing just an inch from each other with their common point of interest, Ranveer Singh, having moved on interest-wise, from the former to the latter. Check this “I wouldn’t endorse a fairness cream!”, said Sonakshi , right about the time Anushka signed up to be the face of one!

If that isn’t all- we have some of them talking against their male counterparts, both on a professional and personal front. Kareena’s elaborate “I love, love, love Aamir Khan. He’s one actor I would love to work with again and again. He’s the biggest and the best”-quote makes us wonder what the other Khans, including Beau Saif have to say about this. On the personal front, Anushka’s not taking her Ex, Ranveer’s maneuver from her to Sonakshi, lying down. She says, “Nowadays, when I speak to boys about fidelity, I think I’m speaking to aliens. They don’t understand fidelity.”

Sparks on the way!

Do we really need this? It’s good to see that diplomacy isn’t shielding the fake friendships, but the animosity might put off fan followings. At one point of time, actresses chose to keep their dignified silences- we’re definitely not the same era anymore!

While the boiling gossip columns can’t get enough, we’d love to see your work do the talking, ladies!
