It's finally happened. The pre-release hype and media blitzkrieg has lead to further hype and media blitzkrieg since Chennai Express has broken all box office records. The Rohit Shetty-directed comic caper has raked in the coveted collection in six days flat!
The earnings have been taken from the theatres worldwide! Chennai Express has even beaten the record of Ek Tha Tiger, which took more than ten days to beat that record. The Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone-starrer that was released in more than 3,500 halls last week collected 100.42 crores in the weekend itself. Its six-day domestic collection stands at 134.79 crores.
Chennai Express was released in more than 700 screens in 11 foreign countries. It collected 50.47 crores at the International Box Office. So six days later, with the overall box office collections, Chennai Express has raked in 205.26 crores. It was estimated that the Independence Day break will bring in more than 30 crores in the Domestic Box Office collections. Therefore, the film could well be on its way to make 250 crores in the first week itself.
