After India conducted “surgical strikes” across the LOC in J&K, most front pages across the country talked only of this action. Almost all of India's mainstream publications had this news as banner headlines. Post #UriAttack and #SurgicalStrike here comes Pakistani Actors To Be Banned! While the Mumbai police said that it would provide protection to all foreign nationals on a legal visa, it leads to a debate on all news channels and twitteratti about the presence of Pakistani artists in India while the nation grapples with issues of cross-border terrorism.
The Indo-Pak relationship hit an all-time low after the Uri attack and has seen the two nations against each other at the United Nations General Assembly.
The Indian Motion Picture Producers Association(IMPPA) had passed a resolution which bans Pakistani actors and technicians from working in India till the relations between the two nations return to normalcy.
Here is our take on the ban on Pakistani actors:
Many Bollywood co-actors of Fawad Khan and other Pakistani artists extended their support to them. They said that Indian Film Industry is open to talent across boundaries. Artists are always in the favour of love and peace. But we think let's be Indians first and then a renowned person from the Filmi Industry. The government has the authority to take decisions about law and order.
Varun Dhawan also came forward favouring his Pakistani co-star by saying, "If by banning actors, terrorism can be stopped then they should do it.”
The Director of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil said,“If this was truly a solution, one would take it but it's not. I don’t believe it is. The larger forces have to come together and sort the situation and this cannot be banning talent or art." Filmmaker Karan Johar also is of the same opinion and is against the ban.
We as Indians feel that Pakistani actors should have condemned the Uri Attack.
It is the actor's responsibility to work across the border with us should be to condemn the terrorists who killed our soldiers.
Salman Khan spoke out against the ban on social media. He said, “They are artists, not terrorists. It’s the government who gives them work permits and visas. Art and terrorism should not be mixed.” The entire world stands against terror and our fight against it has begun. There are many who do not follow or support terrorists.
But those who have a fan following and have an influence on people should come and condemn terrorists and terrorist activities.
This is one of the ways you will do justice to your country.
The resolution taken by the association is not a ban but a “request” to Indian producers to refrain from working with Pakistani artistes, singers or technicians.
If the Pakistan artists are not terrorists, then why are they hesitant to condemn terror attacks? Is it because they earn money in India and pay tax in Pakistan or is because they are indirectly promoting terrorism?
The one's supporting the Pakistani artists do you really care about humanity or is it your another money saving jinx? As the Bollywood film industry works it is more about big bucks. Are you trying to save your losses taking the shield of humanity? As citizens of India, it is our responsibility to protect our country in every possible way. We should be Indians first before being a producer, director or an actor.
Considering that we have asked for Diplomatic isolation internationally how can we promote Pakistani artists in this situation. It beats India's purpose and brings out hypocrisy.
If Sanjay Dutt being an Indian can be a traitor then how can we trust Pakistani actors and artists of not supporting terrorism? Yes, Indian Government has provided visas and hence they will be sent back safely as they are our responsibility. Even top actors of the industry got detained at airports. That's what a safety protocol is. Keeping the situation in mind, the step taken is appropriate.
Let's show some gratitude and respect to our soldiers who are fighting for us leaving their families behind just for our country. Think once have you done anything being a citizen of India?
