Superstar Rajinikanth's younger daughter Soundarya has filed a divorce petition in a family court in Chennai. Soundarya and Ashwin Ramkumar tied the knot at a grand wedding ceremony in 2010, which was attended by the who's who of the film, politics, and business world. Now they have a one-year-old son, Ved. Claiming difference of opinion between them, a mutual consent divorce petition was filed in a family court. After reports about her troubled marriage came out in September, Soundarya confirmed that she had indeed separated from her industrialist husband and said that divorce talks were on.
"News about my marriage is true. We have been separated for over a year and divorce talks are on. I request all to respect my family's privacy," the "Kochadaiyaan" director had tweeted in September. Soundarya is a graphic designer and film-maker. Her separation was the subject of intense media speculation and Rajnikanth did the best thing under the circumstances by simply staying away from offering any explanations. As the managing director of Ocher Studios, she had pulled off a major coup by tying up with Warner Brothers Pictures India for joint production of films in all four south Indian languages. Ocher studios was therefore set up with the objective of assimilating the forte and proficiency of the aspiring young with knowhow and the experienced to produce high end digital content creation for Broadcast TV, Commercial and film. Then Ocher Studios signed an agreement with Warner Bros. Entertainment to partner up in producing and distributing Tamil films, with their first film being Goa (2010), directed by Venkat Prabhu. Ocher Studios’ debut animation film, Sultan The warrior in 3D format is directed by Soundarya herself and film features Rajnikanth.
