Shirish Kunder’s short film Kriti may ironically lack imagination but the director himself has it in abundant supply. Shirish Kunder imagines he is a good director, Shirish Kunder imagines people care about his films, Shirish Kunder imagines that at least a short film will be able to salvage his career.
After delivering such cinematic cautionary tales like Tees Maar Khan and Joker, Mr. Kunder decided that he would finally be taken seriously if he cast some serious actors. So here’s his newfound formula.
Take a nice healthy serving of Manoj Bajpayee and add a generous dollop of a pretty but talented actress like Radhika Apte. Mix thoroughly and leave it to simmer. Add a some spicy seasoning in the form of the delicious Neha Sharma and and pepper it all with some nifty editing, a skill that Mr. Kunder does possess. And the end result is still a bland Shirish Kunder film.
This guy manages to make Manoj Bajpayee look like a ham actor. All the actors spout dialogues that look like literal translations from English and somehow Neha Sharma ends up delivering the best performance. Since this is a thriller, the film definitely has a twist but you can see it coming a mile away. His lead character undergoes a transformation that would normally require the length of an entire feature film to be justifiable but Mr. Kunder doesn’t really care for such details.
Wonky camera angles, quick cuts, over-performing actors, random jump scares and mannequin dolls, all plague Kunder’s short film. Watch it or don’t, at least it won’t take a big slice out of your life like his other movies. And even if Bajpayee does pull some grotesque faces at least you can delight in the efforts put in by the two gorgeous ladies.
Let’s leave the stars to your imagination for this one.
