Superstar Rajnikanth appears mighty pleased with the digitally re-mastered version of his iconic 1995 Tamil film 'Baasha', which is gearing up for re-release next month. Ever since Shivaji Ganesan’s classic Karna was digitally mastered in colour, Kollywood producers have been looking for iconic films to be re-released. Directed by Suresh Krissna, the film was produced by R.M. Veerappan. Now his son Thangaraj is the man behind the idea to digitize and re-release 'Baasha'.

Rajnikanth’s Baasha

In a statement, Thangaraj said: Rajini sir had seen the trailer of the re-mastered version of the film and had really liked it. Rajnikanth had asked Thangaraj if it was his father's idea to re-release 'Baasha'. Thangaraj explained to him what they had achieved technically with the film and he was delighted to know composer Deva sir had rescored for the entire film. The film chronicles the story of a hardworking auto-rickshaw driver who once ruled as a dreaded gangster. Recalling his meeting with Rajnikanth, Thangaraj said: "He shared anecdotes about 'Baasha', and how his father was responsible the success". Special plans are being made for the film's release with a red carpet event, a charity show in London, and have fans from Japan invited to watch the film.
