It’s the start of the new year, and 2013 already promises to bring to you bigger blockbusters starring the biggest superstars than last year. Hrithik, Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir, Ajay, Akshay and Saif are some of the stars you can expect to rock theatres throughout the year and hopefully set a bigger mark and a platform for the others. Here are some of the biggest films for 2013.
The biggest multi-starrer to release this year is Dhoom 3. Abhishek and Uday return as the crime-busting duo in the third edition of the Action-packed series. The best thing to watch out for is Aamir Khan’s first-ever role as an antagonist and his pairing with Katrina Kaif.
Krrish 3 is the third edition of the biggest Indian super-hero series starring Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra. Hrithik has gone through a 10-week transformation to look the best in his part and boasts of having the best action sequences directed by top-notch action-directors. Another interesting bit to watch out for is Vivek Oberoi in a negative role opposite Kangana Ranaut.
Salman Khan has a mixed and unconfirmed list of films this year. We have reports that for his first film this year he joins hands with brother Sohail after a long time for the remake of a Punjabi film, which will star Salman as his character Radhe from Tere Naam. We also have news about another film starring Salman directed by Sohail, titled Sher Khan and an untitled remake of a telugu film with Sajid Nadiadwala.
The original Himmatwala was a blockbuster and Saijd Khan plans on making history again with the remake of the film under the same title. Ajay Devgn replaces Jeetendra of the original cast and South-star Tamannah will star as the female lead. The film is being called the modern version of a cult-classic.
Akshay Kumar plays con-man in Special Chabbis, a film based on un-reported true incidents of 1987 where a gang of con- men posing as Income Tax officers raided a reputed jeweller’s house. The film is being directed by Neeraj Pandey, whose first film was A Wednesday, an under-rated 2008 hit.
A second expected-blockbuster for this year starring Akshay in a gangster avatar is the sequel to Milan Luthria’s blockbuster hit Once upon A Time in Mumbaai. The blockbuster jodi Akshay and Sonakshi will share screen space with Imran Khan, who will be seen doing a very intense role for the first time.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani will see Ranbir and Deepika come together for the first time after their real-life break-up. As producer Karan Johar puts it, the film will be a tribute to all the evergreen actors of yester-years.
Prakash Jha brings another socially-relevant project to the front with Satyagraha. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan as a new-age Gandhi sharing screen space with Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor and Manoj Bajpayee.
Abbas-Mustan return with another high-voltage action thriller, Race 2. The film will see Saif playing the lead once again, but this time he’s pitted against a very powerful John Abraham. Anil Kapoor reprises his roles as Inspector Robert D’Costa, while Deepika, Jacqueline and Ameesha sizzle as the leading ladies.
The next super-cop masala entertainer to watch out for this year is RajKumar Santoshi’s Phata Poster Nikla Hero starring Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D’Cruz. The film is a mix of action, romance and all the essential spices of an Indian blockbuster.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali makes a strong directorial comeback with a very unusual pairing of Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in Ram-Leela. The film, according to Bhansali, is an romance-drama based on Rome-Juliet.
Other films to be released in 2013 and already gaining popularity are Besharam, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Shootout at Wadala, Boss, Rambo Rajkumar, Kai Po Chhe, Zanjeer-remake, Thuppaki remake, Heropanti, Grand Masti, Matru Ki Bijlee ka Mandola, Peekay, Madras café, Ghanchakkar, Inkaar, Lootera, Queen, Gulab gang and the Mary Kom bio-pic.
