While most Bollywood celebs make the headlines every week, it takes a rather special occasion for them to go viral on the Internet. Be it as a spoof or simply because they did something awe-inspiring, these B-town celebs managed to have the entire Internet buzzing for days. Read on to discover the five times Bollywood ruled the Internet in 2014.
Alok Nath’s ‘babuji’ memes:
Before 2014, Alok Nath was just that guy who always played the father in Bollywood sobfests. But when some enterprising soul decided to make a meme out of his and labeled him as the Babuji of B-town the internet had found a new toy. For days and days we had nothing but Babuji memes buzzing around the place with even Alok Nath joining in the fun by shooting a babuji rap. You can check out some of the most popular memes here.
Alia Bhatt’s Genius Of The Year:
Alia Bhatt managed to stay in the news this year not only because of her three hit films but also thanks to all the ‘dumb’ jokes she inspired. She often made the headlines for giving silly answers at press conferences but the point when the Internet truly made her its own was when she shot an amazing self-deprecating spoof video titled Genius Of The Year. Alia not only silenced her critics by addressing all their doubts but also proved that she has the guts to laugh at herself.
Anushka Sharma’s duck-face:
A pretty face like Anushka warrants to make the headlines everyday but it wasn’t until she appeared on Koffee With Karan with a pair of shockingly puffy lips that the Internet went crazy. For days, people couldn’t stop talking about her weird duck-face so much so that Anushka herself had to write a scathing letter declaring that it was only a temporary side effect of trying out some new look for an upcoming movie.
Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir’s bonhomie:
While everybody kept expecting fireworks to fly between the three Khans during Arpita Khan’s wedding, what actually happened surprised us even more. They ended up becoming fast friends and posed for a number of lovely photos. This image of Salman and Shah Rukh kissing Arpita went viral almost immediately followed by their collective appearance on Aap Ki Adaalat’s 21st anniversary.
Gauahar Khan’s slapping controversy:
Gauahar had a very unpleasant experience recently when a youth suddenly ran on stage and slapped her during the shoot of a TV show. It created a big sensation online but things got really interesting when Gauahar responded with a fitting comeback. She held a press conference and openly spoke about against the whole incident. She clarified that she does not want to comment on or promote any kind of dress code and is simply concerned with the manner in which the protest was expressed. Nobody has the right to lash out in this manner against any man or woman. She completed the shoot to send a message to all women to stand up against such incidents and raise their voice. It was a truly dignified and praiseworthy response.
