Shahid Kapoor turns 34 today and incredibly, this young star has already achieved far more than many others manage to do in their life time. But it was only in 2014 that the world truly woke up to his raw acting prowess with Haider. This birthday, we take a look back at Sasha’s journey from a baby-faced college boy to a powerhouse actor.
Way back in the 90s even before his official film debut Shahid appeared in some TV ads as well as an uncredited dancer in movies like Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Taal. But it wasn’t until Ishq Vishq in 2003 that we were finally introduced to Pankaj Kapoor’s sweet, young son. Shahid instantly carved a niche for himself as the lovable chocolate boy and continued down that path for a long time. However, somewhere around the time of Jab We Met, people began to realize that he could be capable of a lot more. But it took a Vishal Bharadwaj to truly bank on Shahid’s versatality.
Shahid Kapoor’s double-act in Kaminey finally cemented Shahid’s claim at stardom as well as established the fact that he had inherited all of daddy’s famous acting chops. Be it the lisping Charlie or the adorable Guddu, Shahid managed to ooze confidence and innocence with his dual portrayal making Kaminey one of his definitive works.
Shahid then returned to his comfort zone for a while until he realized that the world no longer wants to see sweet chocolate boys. While the likes of Imran Khan took a while to catch on to it, Shahid immediately pulled off a mass entertainer like R... Rajkumar. He proved he could match up to the best of them when it came to pleasing the crowds once again making Shahid a force to reckon with at the box office.
And then came Haider. And the rest, as they say, is history. In the course of one single film, Shahid Kapoor emerged as a true powerhouse of acting talent the likes of which we hadn’t seen in a mainstream star for a long time. This was no half-baked effort at greatness and Shahid even has the awards to prove it. So now we ask the question, what next? Apparently, a lot! If Sasha’s upcoming movies Shaandar and Udta Punjab are anything to go by, Shahid seems keen on staying out of the box. And with so many other actors simply churning out mainstream movies, we would rather Shahid continues to break new ground.
And what’s more, Shahid has just turned thirty-four! So here’s looking forward to tons of brilliant movies from this brilliant actor. Oh and one more thing, Happy Birthday Mr. Shahid Kapoor!
