Ranbir Kapoor’s Bombay Velvet may have been a long time coming but the wait was worth it. Especially for Ranbir Kapoor who we felt truly shined in this crime noir extravaganza. Ranboo’s nuanced portrayal of a typical Bombay street thug is already winning many hearts so we though it would be a great idea to look back at some of Ranbir’s other superior performances. So here are four times this Kapoor lad more than lived up to the prestigious family name.
Quite early in his career, Ranbir undertook this very matured movie about an enterprising young man. His dedication to the role was obvious and it told other directors that he was ready for something more than mainstream roles.
Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani
There is quite nothing like Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani, thanks in no small part to Ranbir’s sweet, charming and oddball character. Ranbir prances, dances and romances his way through the movie with classic Kapoor charm and ends up showing shades of his flamboyant uncle Shammi Kapoor.
What can we say about Barfi that hasn’t been said already. Forget the incredible Chaplinesque moments or even Ranbir’s perfect body-language, even his expressionsspeak volumes in this touching romantic drama by Anurag Basu.
And then you have Rockstar, the movie that cemented Ranbir’s place in Bollywood as a truly outstanding actor. Sweeping away all the awards that year, Ranbir displayed rare intensity and honesty playing the character of a tormented rock artist. While the movie itself may have divided critics, they unanimously loved Ranbir’s performance.
With promising films like Tamasha and Jagga Jasoos coming up, we feel Ranbir Kapoor will truly shine in the coming few years. Have we missed out on any of your favourite Ranbir films? Do let us know in the comments section below.
