2015 was a fairly good year for Bollywood even if a number of big budget movies tanked at the box office. And as we stand on the cusp of 2016 we decided to take a quick look at some of the biggest box office hits of the year.
At number five we have Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale with total lifetime earnings of 130 Crores. However, this film is still in the theatres and easily has to potential to rake in much more. After an explosive start the film has failed to grow at the expected rate and seems unlikely to hit the 200 Crore mark.
Bajirao Mastani is at number four with earnings of 131.45 Crores but then again, like Dilwale, this film too is running in theatres and has the potential to earn much much more in the coming days. Interestingly, this film started off slow and then picked up through word-of-mouth reviews and could easily end up being a bigger film than Bajirao Mastani.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns proved to be a bigger hit than its predecessor and ended up making a whopping 152 Crores. This figure is extremely impressive considering the relatively lower star power of the film, easily making this one of the biggest earners of the year.
Salman’s second hit of the year also proved to be the second biggest box office earner. Critics were skeptical about Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo but this Barjatya movie managed to rake in a cool 207.40 Crores and that is a figure which is very hard to argue with.
Of course how could the top spot on this list go to any other film besides a Salman Khan blockbuster. Sallu’s most successful film till date - Bajrangi Bhaijaan, also proved to be the biggest box office hit of the year. The film made a whopping 320.34 Crores, making it one of the most successful Bollywood movies till date.
