Akshay Kumar, in a recent interview, acknowledged that the larger-than-life roles, impress the audience more, and hence, are reason for box office hits. When asked why he prefers to do only those, these past few years, the actor explained, “In the early phase of my career, I tried doing films like Sangharsh, even in the last few years I did 8x10 Tasveer, Patiala House but I only got critical acclaim for it. There were no results at the box-office.”
The actor, whose previous films like Rowdy Rathore, Desi Boyz and Housefull 2 have been runaway hits with the masses, has become a household name when it comes to slapstick comedy and action. Previously touted as an out-and-out action hero, Akky has actually experimented a lot with his roles. So what is with the current rush of similar roles? “I would love to do a meaningful film after doing the regular masala commercial entertainers at the BO,” he says, “but one has to remember that there is huge money involved here. Having said that, actors have to do what masses love and appreciate us for.”
Which is true. Actors thrive on the public's appreciation. Speaking of which, this Singh is King actor was seeing bonding with King Khan Shah Rukh Khan during the IPL. Do we see a great camaraderie strike up there? What's their equation?
“We are colleagues, so there's always been some sort of camaraderie between us,” said Akshay, “We share a mutual respect for each other's work. In fact, I really appreciate the way he made such a big action film like Ra.One. How many producers or actors would bring such kind of special effects and pump in so much money for a project? Of course, it was great to connect with him at the IPL matches too.”
Clearly, this actor understands Bollywood's bonding and commerce a lot. After all, he's producer too!
We wish the actor the very best in cinema!
