Bollywood's cricket connection!

Bollywood and cricket are two things that whet the appetite of every Indian. On quite a few occasions, sport and entertainment have forged a fruitful if controversial partnership in the country. Here are few examples of cricketers who have decided to dabble with the art of acting.

Starting with the infamous Ajay Jadeja, an amazing cricketer in his time, he made his B-Town debut in the film Khel alongside Celina Jaitley and Sunil Shetty.

Vinod Kambli is better known for being Sachin Tendulkar’s childhood friend than for his exploits on the field. He tried his hand in a movie called Annarth. Unfortunately this one left no mark on the BO.

Salil Ankola a former Indian fast bowler is one rare success story in Bollywood. He acted in Kurukshetra, Pitaah and Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne before delving into television with a few shows.

Salim Durani another famous Indian cricketer from yesteryear was one of the very first ones to start this trend. He acted in a movie called Charitra, which absolutely bombed at the box office. We assumed that was another trend he started.

One of the best cricketing all rounders of all time, Kapil Dev ventured into movies too. He has acted in movies like Iqbal the Rampur Express and Chain Kulli ki Main Kulli.

Sandeep Patil and Syed Kirmani were both part of India's World Cup winning team of '83 and acted together in a movie called Kabhi Ajnabi The. Kirmani played a negative role, which wasn’t the worse you’ll ever see.

More recently, a movie named Victory was being mooted which involved established cricketing names like Brett Lee, Mike Hussey, Shoaib Malik, Harbhajan Singh among others. All of the above mentioned names were set to play bit-part roles.

A fair few cricketers have even tried their hand at dancing on the small screen too in Ek Khiladi, Ek Haseena - a reality TV show. It had the likes of Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth trying to out dance each other, while Pakistani legend Wasim Akram judged their performances.

Reading between the lines, it isn’t too often that you find a talented cricket that has made it on the big screen. However we’re sure that wont deter future stars from taking a shot at superstardom in Desi Tinsel Town. At our end, all we can do is wait and watch!
