Bollywood has spurned from its creative pockets some gooseflesh-giving, heartbeat-skipping thrillers for decades now. Audiences have had a gala time trying to figure out the mystery behind every one of the films that intrigued them. Here's looking at some of the most engaging thrillers of recent times!

Ram Gopal Varma started the trend of the recent thrillers with Kaun, starring Urmila Matondkar. A woman alone in a house, while news of a serial killer on the loose spreads in town, is confronted by stranger after stranger. Background scores to match the spine-chilling experience made this 1999 flick a treat for the thrill-magnets! Ek Haseena Thi, Saif Ali Khan joined Urmila in this psychological thriller as the vengeful and wronged Urmila makes Saif’s character pay dearly for having framed her in an arms possession case. The film had you guessing with its clever plots and twists all through! Saif then continued his thriller spree as the mysteriously motivated murderer and thief in Being Cyrus. The plot revolving itself around the intricacies of a family, Saif as Cyrus made this 2006 movie a brilliant watch

The year 2008 brough along ‘A Wednesday’, a thriller with a lesson. Starring veterans Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah, the movie was a vent to the frustration of the common man in Mumbai- piled by the year with terror attacks. Catching up soon in 2008 was Race, which made for masala-style entertainment. Saif, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Sameera Reddy were part of a mysterious cat-and-mouse chase for solving inexplicable events taking place for the sake of wealth and fame! Following Closely was the film Gulaal. Political ambition and hard-hitting truths about small-town lifestyle made for an epic 2 hours with KK Menon and Abhimanyu Singh in the lead!

Karthik calling Karthik, 2010, was a story of the mental musings of a lonely and disturbed Farhan Akhtar. The film didn’t do too well at the BO- but was an impressive effort on the whole. 2011 brought along 7 khoon maaf- the story of Suzanna Rodrigues- who has a tryst with matrimony every time she tries to find a suitable husband. Priyanka Chopra does a mind-blowing job as the lead actress.

Most recently, in 2012- Kahaani stunned the critics with Vidya Balan’s brilliant portrayal of a woman whose husband has mysteriously disappeared.
