Ramaiya Vastavaiya - Music Review

Music - Sachin-Jigar, Lyrics - Priya Panchal

Ramaiya Vastavaiya marks the acting debut of producer Kumar Taurani’s son, Girish Kumar who’ll be seen opposite Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan’s daughter, Shruti Haasan in it. The film projects itself as a light hearted rom-com and it’s time to see whether its soundtrack complements its mood!

Jeene Laga Hoon sung by Atif Aslam and Shreya Ghoshal is the quintessential falling in love song with Atif adding to its appeal with his inherently yearning vocals and Shreya bringing softness to the track. It’s got a ‘heard it before’ feel to it in parts but should easily manage to connect with its audience.

Next up is the obligatory Bhangra track Hip Hop Pammi which is more synth dominated than the regular instruments associated with the genre. Mika is lively as usual but is somewhat let down by the music and the obvious shortage of lyrics in the track. Moreover, Monali looks like a situational addition to the song as she’s got very little to sing in it.

Bairiyaa starts off beautifully as a soft romantic number and loses just a bit of its charm during its build up. Still this Atif Aslam - Shreya Ghoshal number manages to touch you with its sense of tenderness and yearning.

Peecha Chhute by is a peppy number with percussions and guitars dominating its proceedings but doesn’t really manage to leave an impression. This time the music lets down Mohit Chauhan for a change.

Rang Jo Lagyo is yet another Atif Aslam-Shreya Ghoshal number but is different from the others in its soaring rendition and ‘rock song’ like instrumentation. However, the arrangement is quite inconsistent at places in this more or less ordinary track.

Jadoo ki Jhappi tries hard to be a celebratory, fun filled number but turns out to be a below average one thanks to the collective failure of its music, lyrics and singers, Mika and Neha Kakkar to come together in a meaningful way. We have no idea why this song has got a remix version!

With only two songs managing to leave an impression on you, the soundtrack of Ramaiya Vastavaiya is somewhat of a disappointment. We’re giving 1.75 stars out of 5 to this album.
