The Singham sequel Singham 2 was officially announced by Mumbai’s police commissioner Satyapal Singh at the police charity function Umang 2014. At the event cops expressed the pride they had felt when the original Singham released in 2011 and believe that their families and friends started respecting their profession more after watching the film.
Singham 2 will have Ajay Devgn reprising the role of Bajirao Singham while Kareena Kapoor will the play the character of a marathi girl for the first time. Rohit Shetty will direct the film and Amol Gupte will replace Prakash Raj as the villain. Reportedly, Gupte had to gain 15 kilos for the role.
Speaking about Singham 2 Kareena said, “I'm looking forward to starting work on the film, which goes on floors in the first week of March. We will hit screens on August 15 (Independence Day) this year. Like our police force, Singham 2 is an emotional journey for me too, as it means I will join Rohit and Ajay with whom I did two of the Golmaal films. Not to forget, Singham is a franchise that one is privileged to be associated with. The earlier film had its heart in the right place and that's why it went on to become a calendar event for India.”
With a heroine like Kareena on board and Amol Gupte's acting chops, the Singham sequel just became a lot more interesting. This is one action-drama to watch out for this year.
